Gibbaeum pilosulum, a neat-growing fuzzy-leaved mesemb, is a favorite among specialists in these plants. Resembling the difficult Muiria hortenseae, but much more amenable to cultivation, this South African hails from arid areas of the Ladismith Division, where it forms clumps among stones and, usually, shrinks partially below-ground during the dry season. Our photo was taken at the Sphaeroid Institute in New Mexico by John N. Trager. |
