Michigan Cactus and Succulent Society

The Michigan Cactus & Succulent Society welcomes you to our info page. Membership in a club like ours revolves around people who share a common interest in cacti & succulent plants and gardening in general. Our mutual love of these plants ties us together. Please take the time to read this brief description of our club.

Our society was born in January, 1943. Our motto is "Education & Fraternity". We are affiliated with other cactus clubs throughout the USA through the Cactus & Succulent Society of America (CSSA) and through exchange of bulletins.

Our PURPOSE is to study, propagate and cultivate cacti and other succulents. Many of our members have special interest hardy cacti such as native Opuntia compressa & Opuntia fragilis or hardy succulents such as agaves and yuccas that can survive our severe winters. We also have a voice in conservation on the local and national leve.

Our MEETINGS are usually held once a month, on the second Sunday. Our programs may include interesting and informative slide shows, lectures and workshops. We meet at several locations throughout Southeast Michigan. Attendance to our meetings is opened to everyone. We also go on field trips to local nurseries and to member's homes to become acquainted and admire their collections. Our annual Plant Sale is held in September, at the Matthaei Botanical Garden, in Ann Arbor.
