Many of the following Burseras have never been in cultivation. Most are very limited in stock. Many are rooted cuttings and it is not known if they will develop caudices as Burseras often do when grown from seed. All can be trained as bonsai. Many are in Bursera L. Section Bursera and have peeling bark.
Bursera aloexylon (Shiede) Engl.
"linaloe" BLM 0781, Nr. Milta, Oaxaca. Reddish-gray non-peeling bark. Leaves pinnate, pubescent with crenate margins, seed and bark are extremely aromatic and the resin is used by local artisans. Good bonsai subject. Seedlings.

Bursera arborea (Rose) Riley
BLM 0394 Native to coastal areas in Jalisco, Nayarit and Michoacan and often confused with B. simaruba. Reported to be endangered, but our observations indicate that it is quite abundant. Red peeling bark and pinnate, entire leaves.

BLM 1318 Native to the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Valley and surrounding hills. Mature trees have reddish peeling bark and very finely divided leaves.

Bursera biflora (Rose) Standley
BLM 0793 Nr. Totalapan, Oaxaca. Simple, glaborous leaves with crenate margins; smooth reddish bark. a very attractive and fast growing species. Branches grow perpendicular to the trunk making for easily trained bonsai.

Very wide-spread in western Mexico at middle elevations (1000-1500m). Small pinnate leaves with gray bark make this an attractive plant for bonsai.

Bursera cuneata (Schl.) Engl.
Grows at a higher elevation than any other Bursera to over 2000m. Pinnate leaves with gray bark. Can take some frost. Native to oak-tropical deciduous forest transition zone from Jalisco to Oaxaca.
